Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says the Red Devils are on their way back to being competitive again.

He praised how United played against Chelsea and their 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol.

Hardly a week passes without talking about Manchester United. On most occasions, it has been negative talk, and the Red Devils seem unable to shake off the negativity that seems to enshroud the club. From the future of Cristiano Ronaldo to the recent one that involves Antony, they have been from one controversial issue to the other.

Manchester United have become a small club with a big name and a large purse. Somehow they have managed to link themselves to big players, but their performance on the pitch is at variance with the expectations of their fans. The Red Devils want to return to their glory days, but their mouths are currently bigger than their stomachs.

While most people seem to see nothing positive about Manchester United and cannot fathom getting out of the drama at the club anytime soon, Pep Guardiola sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Despite the topsy-turvy results managed by the club this season, Guardiola believes United is on its way to glory days.

Guardiola is positive about the future of Manchester United

Manchester United started the season on a dour note, losing their first two Premier League games. The losses signalled turbulence at Old Trafford, but Erik Ten Hag has been able to re-engineer the club to get back to its feet.

The Dutchman led United to a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Manchester City but has gone seven matches unbeaten since that loss. Pep Guardiola believes Man United is getting out of the rut with changes at the club under Erik Ten Hag.

The Red Devils won the Premier League in 2013, with their last trophy coming in 2017 under Jose Mourinho. Despite all the negativity, Guardiola has positive vibes about United and said he believes the Red Devils are coming back. Following their 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in a Europa League game on Thursday night, Guardiola enthused that finally, United is coming back.

He also praised the Red Devils for their first-half performance against Chelsea in their 1-1 draw last weekend.

Guardiola also wary of Newcastle

While praising Manchester United, Guardiola also spoke of other teams he feels would fight for top places in the league this season. He claims it is why they have to fight to qualify for the Champions League and fight for the title.

After deep scrutiny of the challengers this term, Guardiola claims Newcastle is another team to watch. He believes they can challenge for the title and top four. The former Barcelona manager claims Newcastle is already at that level to challenge for honours. Guardiola believes the Toons are one of the sides that can stop the Citizens from winning a third consecutive Premier League title.

Guardiola said against Spurs, the central defenders of Newcastle had no issues going toe-to-toe against Harry Kane and Heung Son Min.

Guardiola understands Newcastle well after playing them in their third game this season. He believes they have the added advantage of playing once a week. Guardiola also praised Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, saying he is a good manager.
