Brighton face battle to keep star as Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool circle

Brighton and Hove Albion have slapped an £85 million tag on their latest midfield talent Moises Caicedo after it emerged that the big Premier League league sides are monitoring the Ecuadorian.

Caicedo joined the Seagulls in 2021 but spent the season on loan at Beerschot, a second division club in Belgium. His strong performances for the Belgian club and his country saw him recalled to the Premier League club and the decision has since paid off spectacularly for the managers.

It has also caught the attention of the big teams who see him as a good option to strengthen their squads ahead of the coming months. Reports now claim that Brighton are aware of this and will listen to offers of £85 million and above for the 20-year-old.

Brighton have already made significant profits in the summer after selling off some of their best assets. Marc Cucurella went to Chelsea for £63 million; Tottenham Hotspur signed Yves Bissouma for £25 million plus add-ons and Everton signed Neal Maupay for £15 million. Over the past year, the Seagulls have made in excess of £160 million on sales.

Caicedo will reportedly kick off what could be a profitable year once again for Brighton as the club have a host of players who are of interest to the rest of the Premier League.

Graham Potter, the man who signed Caicedo to Brighton, is said to be leading the push to get his former charge to Stamford Bridge. Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe is also said to be a big fan of the player and both clubs are seen as the favourites to land the Ecuador international’s signature in January after the World Cup.

Liverpool have their sights set on Jude Bellingham but with Real Madrid in the race for the young Englishman, the Reds have earmarked Caicedo as their key replacement should their push for the Borussia Dortmund star fall short.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi, however, is not keen on letting the 20-year-old depart as he has been one of his key players since he took over the dugout in late September. The Italian sealed his first win in charge of the Seagulls over Chelsea, managed by Potter who was returning to the Amex for the first time since he left the club.

Speaking on how he achieved the feat, the Italian said: “We prepared the game one-to-one with Mitoma with Chalobah and one-to-one Solly March against Cucurella. But Trossard was fantastic, Adam Lallana the same. All the players were fantastic.”

“I am very happy for the players, the club and the people who work with the team.

“And, of course, the great fans because they were the best players on the pitch – they helped us so much.
