De Gea and Maguire lend support

England women took on Austria as the European Championship began. A sold-out crowd witnessed the opening match between England and Austria. The game did not disappoint as the Lionesses thrilled their fans but managed a slender win over the Austrians.

Among the fans supporting the Lionesses were Manchester United captain Harry Maguire and goalkeeper David de Gea. The two United players were in the stands at Old Trafford with the supporters as England picked their first three points of the campaign with a win over Austria.

Beth Mead gave the hosts something to cheer about in the 16th minute with a delightful finish despite a nervy start against the Austrians.

Support was not lacking for England as the crowd was behind them

Manchester United had a torrid season and are looking to draw inspiration from anywhere to buoy the players into performing well this season. Perhaps watching the Lionesses would encourage the duo of David de Gea and Harry Maguire to up their game this season.

More support has come for the Lionesses, who have started the tournament on the right foot. The support from the United stalwarts is indeed welcome.

Another player that lent his support to the team is England captain and Tottenham striker Harry Kane. The forward wished the team well with a video message posted on social media. In the message wished the team well. He tried to pump up the girls to go for it and win the title held by the Netherlands.

In the video, Harry Kane said it’s a home tournament and that the girls should expect an incredible atmosphere. He asked the fans to go out and back the girls. He wants the fans to support the girls and make them feel at home.

England held on for their first win of the tournament and have now started the tournament on a positive note.
