Ademola Lookman has agreed on personal terms with Atalanta, and a deal should be completed in the coming days. The Nigerian winger spent last season on loan at Leicester City.
The transfer market is still active as teams rush to close summer deals with the season about to begin. Premier League teams have done more deals than any other league. They have spent a combined total of €1.16 billion. It is still some way off the mark from the expenditure last season but shows it is easier to bring players to the Premier League than to take players out of it.
Transfers are still happening in the Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga, but one has to look at the Nou Camp and see what is going on there. Despite their financial status, they are shelling out plenty of cash to build a super team.
There is little manoeuvre room for teams with modest budgets in a financially charged transfer market. Teams like Sevilla, Valencia, Roma, Eintracht Frankfurt and Atalanta cannot play in the same pool as Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Despite this, they have to find their level, and Atalanta have managed to convince the Foxes winger Ademola Lookman that Bergamo has a better view than Leicester.
One word describes Ademola Lookman. A journeyman. The 24-year-old has been around a bit, going through Charlton Athletic, Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester City. The Nigerian winger is on the move again. This time it is a new terrain. Lookman is about to join Atalanta this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, everything seems to be going to plan as both parties have agreed on personal terms. According to the transfer guru, a deal should be completed in the coming days. It would see Lookman team up with Gian Piero Gasperini.
Should the deal sail through, it would be the first time Lookman, who has had three loan spells, would play in Italy. Atalanta are about to sign Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig. The transfer guru said talks are at the final stage. With personal terms sorted, a deal is imminent for the Nigerian who featured for the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
It has not been a smooth sailing career for Ademola Lookman, who is yet to find root at a club. Since his emergence at Charlton Athletic, where he wowed everyone and showed prospects of a bright future, Lookman has been from one club to another.
Calling a club home for extended periods has been arduous for the Nigerian winger, who has been shuffled from one club to another on loan spells.
RB Leipzig took a punt on him after a successful loan spell at the German side. They signed the Nigerian permanently but went on loan to Fulham after two seasons. At Fulham, he couldn’t save the Cottagers from going down to the Championship in 2020 and was loaned to the Foxes last season.
He did alright at the King Power Stadium, but his performances were not enough for the owners to sanction a permanent deal.
