German side Borussia Monchengladbach have announced the appointment of former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke.

The German, who takes his first job in his home nation for over five years, has signed a deal till 2025.

Farke spent four years at Carrow Road and enjoyed a relatively successful spell with Norwich, leading the club to two different promotions during his tenure.

However, the resources at the club were minimal and could not compete with the might of the Premier League, which saw him relegated in his two top flight seasons of English football.d He was eventually dismissed last November and replaced by former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith.

Farke was appointed as Krasnodar manager

Farke, however, has not been without a job since being let go from his role at Carrow Road. He was appointed as the head coach of Russian club Krasnodar FC early in the year, but he did not get the opportunity to manage a single game as the league was halted due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The German ended up leaving the role in deference to the Russians’ decision and had been without a job since.

However, after three months without a job, the German will move back to his home country for his next adventure. The Bundesliga club had a below par campaign in the just concluded season and will be looking to improve greatly with Farke at the helm.

The 45-year-old impressed his employers with his résumé which saw him shape Norwich into a team that was too good for the English Championship and deserved to play in the Premier League every season.

Farke was also in charge of the youth team at Borussia Dortmund for two years before his move to Carrow Road and the young Black and Yellows were a well-oiled attacking team during his tenure.

Monchengladbach statement on Farke appointment

“In Daniel Farke we have signed a manager that fits our club perfectly, and is also going to follow the path which we have mapped out as a club,” the sporting director Roland Virkus said following Farke’s appointment via the club’s website.

“We are looking forward to facing the challenges ahead of us and tackling them with him.”

Monchengladbach will be looking to massively improve and compete in the league next season after a thoroughly dismal season that saw the team finish tenth on the table. The club decided to part ways with Adi Hitter for leading them to their worst finish in over a decade at the end of the season.

Farke will continue to work with his previous assistants from Norwich and Krasnodar –  Edmund Reimer and Christopher John.

The 45-year-old, who is known for his attacking approach, will hope for a better time at his new club.
