The British Sports Media, in the Guise of the Football Writers Association, have named Manchester City & Portugal’s Rúben Dias as their Player of the Year for Season 2020-21.

In doing so they have once again overlooked Tottenham Hotspur & England’s striker Harry Kane, who has more Premier League Goals (23) and Assists (14) than any other player this season after Matchday 38.

In fact, Harry Kane who is undoubtedly the finest striker England have produced for a generation, has never won the PFA Player of the Year Award.

This is despite Kane winning the Premier League Golden Boot for three seasons (2015-16, 2016-17 & 2020-21) and providing more assists than any other player in 2020-21. In fact, Harry Kane is only the third player in Premier League history to be Top Goalscorer & Top Assists Provider in the same season.

Kane has the best Strike-Rate for England in the Modern Era since Jimmy Greaves and won the Golden Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Finals in Russia and was Top Goalscorer for all 55 Nations for Euro 2020 Qualification .

Harry Kane has scored a greater percentage of Competitive Goals for England (85.29%) than any player in history since 1872. Second to Kane is Geoff Hurst with 75% Competitive Goals Scored for England followed by Alan Shearer with 73.33%.

Given all of Harry Kane’s many achievement for Club & Country it is simply unconscionable that the British Sports Media have seen fit to ignore him for their highest annual award.

Why is this?

Could it simply be a matter of bias against Tottenham Hotspur?

The Press has recently been full of speculation regarding Kane’s future despite the fact that he still has three years left on his current contract with the North London Club until 30th June 2024.

They seem to delight in undermining Tottenham Hotspur’s players & managers at every opportunity.

If Kane was playing for a Club like Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea there is no doubt that his mantelpiece would be groaning under the weight of awards from the British Media by now.
